August Board Meeting Highlights - See the secretary.

Welcome To Our Speakers: On July 24th, there was a joint luncheon with the Glen Ellyn Rotary Club. They shared with us the Shelter Box program, which is a grass roots Rotary club project. It is a box which provides critical shelter and warmth for up to 10 people. This may be the international project we get involved with this year. On July 31st, Lydia Morris and Linda Kunicki from the Pointe at Lombard were our speakers. On August 7th, Dennis was our Blue ribbon speaker. He updated club and for the new members let us know what's happening with the Wells in Haiti. On August 14th, our speaker was Dave Hulseberg, who update us on the goings on in the village. On August 21st, our speaker was Bill Kaiser from the food pantry.

Honored Guests: On July 31st, Jean Johnson, Josh Chambers from GEHS and Dan Whittington joined us for lunch. On August 7th, Future member hopeful Dan Whittington, Rod Mintern, friend of Doc Arndt and as we found out, brother-in-law to Gary H. Our special visitor was AG Linda Zerwin (in plain clothes).

Fines and Happy Fines: On July 31st, our finemaster was busy as he caught Jim I. walking in late. He tried to find those who signed up for the joint meeting with the GE club, but no one fessed up. He'll get them at a later time. Those who don't pay attention to announcements (like we won't be at Casey's next week, we'll be in Glen Ellyn) and showed up anyway, Marge, Gary B. Scott and Maury all paid a fine. PAY ATTENTION NEXT TIME! Happy fines were as follows. Yvonnes son Brandon was supposed to come to Chicago from Amsterdam to do some research work there, but it got cancelled and he wasn't able to fly home. Some friends took up a collection and paid for his airfare home.Steve's daughter took 3rd place in diving. Kathy had a family reunion and everyone survived. Marge had grandma duty and was not able to make the board meeting.Dennis' daughter and son-in-law took a youth group to an Indian reservation to N. Dakota. Ralph's daughter did the same. Gary B's granddaughter was recently married and my daughter Nicole passed her cosmetology test and is now certified with the state. On August 7th, Connie was late and paid up. Kathy, Greg and Doc were caught pinless. Pat C. was fined for not buying a scooter and scooted. There were no happy fines but plenty of members present for the big raffle. Those who did not sign up for programs and were fined, were, Connie, Pat, Aaron, Scott, Ralph, Ron, Greg, Art and Dick. Doc was fined for not showing up at the joint Lombard/Glen Ellyn meeting but signed up. Finemaster Brian caught Art for walking in late. Kathy for no pin. Jean was happy that Dennis left early the previous week and their table won the raffle. Marge was happy the Cubs won 2 games in a row( is it September yet?). Jean was also happy that her oldest will be starting Kindergarten this year. Ralph wanted us to know the best import from the Netherlands was Heinekins. Yvonne was happy that her son Brandon has good friends who all pitched in and bought him his plane ticket from Amsterdam to Chicago. On August 21st, the finemaster finally came out of his shell and got creative on the fines. He got Deb and Yvonne for the two executive directors at one table fine, the 2 in-law rule fine, Kathy and Charlie. A picture fine for Deb a late fine for Ralph and a pin fine for Kathy. Happy fines started out with John Brandon who drove his daughter 1000 miles to school in Fort Worth TX, staying on the college road, Chief Ed's son is at Oklahoma State. Mike F. is going to the Bears pre season game tonight, and will have his son participate in QB tryouts in the parking lot. Steve was happy to have AG Linda here today, Ralph was glad to see our friend Dan Tani at the Cub game and back in town. Doc announced that the Presidential poll has changed in a good way. And last but not least, Brian and Jean have a new dog (a Shitsu?) that had to be shaved because of fleas.

Announcements: On July 31st, President Jean mentioned the joint meeting with GE and their Shelter Box project. Three members went and saw Bill Moran last week and it seemed to do Hilde a world of good. Same for Larry and Janet Bouldin. It seems to brighten up their day. Jean saw Bill Mueller and his progress is looking good. Let's all keep our friends and their families in our prayers. Steve gave an update on the program schedule and Ray had a few tickets left for the Cougars game. We had a birthday trio as Bob W., Charlie and Ralph had recent celebrations.President Jean announced that the bd mtg would be the 14th, Ray has 10 Cougar tickets left and Steve has the speaker schedule for the year for anyone who wants a copy. Dennis announced that the bike collection would be the 13th of September at the old Menards on North and 53 starting at 9:00 am. President Jean said that the cougar game was a good time especially since they won. On August 21st, AG Zerwin announced the District Conference Schedule. Updated us on the Polio Plus Project and the Bags Tournament that her club ( Bloomingdale/Roselle ) is holding. September 14th is the club picnic at John Nolan's house from 1-5. The sign up sheet is going around.

Object of Rotary - or Be Reminded: the first regular (Thursday) meeting of every month is "Food or $5" as members will have the choice of bringing a food item to help supply for the Food Pantry or pay a $5 fine of to support First Things First. When a speaker is not scheduled on the first Thursday of each month, the time will be spent in quality fellowship and member to member interaction.

Weekly Raffle - On July 31st, 4 cards left and Dennis' table had the winning ticket, so it doesn't seem odd that Dennis picked the 3 of diamonds. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO close. August 7th, proved to be a windfall day for Jean, Bob H. Dennis, yes Dennis and Tom, as Bob picked the 9 of Spades. Congrats. I guess it's time to go back to 1 ticket. On August 14th, a new card was picked (the 4 of hearts) and Jim Ilten picked the K of hearts for his table.
