Rotary Corner - Thursday, October 25th the Rotary Club of Lombard held its' annual Reverse Raffle, to fund scholarships for local High School Students. It is the responsibility of every Rotarian to help with this very important event. Without the hard work of our membership, we would not be able to give out over $12,000.00 in college aid. Our member Dick Schroeder, again sold approximately 110 tickets. Thanks Dick. And thank yous to all who helped in the planning of this important event. Oh, and the six winners of the $10,000.00 were, Bob Pavelchik(who bought this ticket from Ray B.), Bob Harris, Don Puchalski, Mitch Bianchin, Scott Allen and Maury. Guess who's buying this week. Congrats!!!

October Board Meeting Highlights - On October 18th
, the board met to discuss the following. Club Service, Bob W. noted that Blue Ribbon committee is going well and will be calling on members to speak when asked. Also b'day cards are going out as needed. F&F Kim and Ray are hard at work on the Christmas Party, look for details coming soon. Int'l, Dennis and Bill are checking on the forth well's progress and discussion on the bike drive may go to every other year. District, Jean informed everyone on the upcoming ABC's of Rotary on 11-01-07. There is a train trip in January and the Conference is April 25th thru 27th 2008. Membership is looking for new members. Y/S Jim and Bob received a thank you from a scholarship recipient from Glenbard S. H.S. And Rich from Community Service talked about the Literacy request from the Grade and High Schools. Meeting adjourned.

Welcome To Our Speakers: On October 4th, the blue ribbon panel consisted of Bob Harris and John Brandon who spoke on Encouraging and Fostering Service. Another great presentation. On October 12th, Tony Trainor was our speaker and gave a slide show of his climb to Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa (like there's another one) all 19,400 feet of it. Very impressive. On October 18th, our speaker was Tod Altenburg, Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations for District 44.

Announcements: On October 4th the word went out that we need members to buy tickets for the raffle and that raffle prizes would be appreciated. It was also noted that $200.00 would be directed from club to purchase a gift basket for the raffle and that it be filled with adult libations.

Fines & Happy Fines: On October 4th, Connie was late. Pins & badges were missing on the following members, Greg, Jean & Bob McB. There were two tables with2 ladies at each, which means some tables were ladyless. So Jean, Kim, Kathy and Connie were duly fined. Yours truly was fined for relocating President Steve from his chair, Denny for having too many announcements and Ed and Ray for having their photo snapped with with with KIWANIANS! Club members were gentle and they were let off each with a $3 fine. Just watch it in the future, ok? Kim had a happy moment when her graphic designer returned from vacation, Bob H. was happy that his son was back in the states from Iraq, although New Jersey is probably not much different. We sang Happy Birthday to Connie and Greg . On October 11th, Connie, Jim B. & Bob McB were late. Bill got fined for a phone call. Sgt@Arms was feeling rushed today, so if you weren't fined within the last month or so, you paid $1.00. Mike caught the fact that Deb forgot happy fines, so she paid up. Mike gave kudos for Dick S. on the tickets he is selling and Rick S's daughter made the all tournament team for volleyball. Jean was happy having celebrated her 11th wedding anniversary. On October 18th, fines for being late to the Board meeting were handed out to, Bob McB., Ray, Dennis, Bill, Marge, Kathy, Rick S., and DEB. Connie was late for lunch. Jim B. had a phone call. Steve got fined for messing up the school district that yours truly resides in. Picture fines were hefty as Dennis, Deb, Dan, Deb, Ron and Deb were hit. Deb was happy that the Chamber hired a new Exec. Dir. Yvonne Invergo. Dan was happy that his parents 60th wedding anniversary was coming up and his son has been hired by a construction firm and has a job waiting when he graduates in May. Happy birthday was sung to Gary H. and Bob M.

Honored Guests: On October 4th, Paul O'Malley Finance Director for Dist. 87 Also with us was Jake Brandenberg from MB Financial. Welcome. On October 18th a quick hello was made by Emil Gellner III as he stopped in while dining at Casey's.

Object of Rotary - or Be Reminded: the first regular (Thursday) meeting of every month is "Food or $5" as members will have the choice of bringing a food item to help supply for the Food Pantry or pay a $5 fine of to support First Things First. When a speaker is not scheduled on the first Thursday of each month, the time will be spent in quality fellowship and member to member interaction.

Weekly Raffle: On October 4th, Deb's table won the draw and Kim picked the 4 of clubs. On October 11th, Ricks table picked the King of Diamonds. On October 18th, Doc Arndt picked the 5 of clubs.
