Most of the winners were present at the Rotary Club Scholarship

club members, and at the same time share a little bit about themselves.
These are all amazing young people and we all wish them well in
their future endeavors.
May Board Meeting Highlights - On May 17, the Board
approved rearranging member classification to include Retired Active
and eliminate Sr. Active. They still pay dues and foundation dues,
but lunches as attended. The criteria is that the member has to
be retired from their job. Bob McBride announced the Scholarship
Luncheon is set for May 24 at Villa Nova. President Rick gave us
the sad news that Mike Fugiels mother had passed away. Our thoughts
and prayers go out to Mike and his family. Maury informed us that
the raffle has reached the $1000 neighborhood.
Welcome To Our Speakers:
May 17: No speaker
May 24: Scholarship Luncheon
May 31: Speakers were Kristen Collins and Bill Black from
the Alchemy Theatre located in the Dazzle Dance Studios on South
Main Street. They relocated from Wood Dale after receiving a not
so enthusiastic following. Though they are filling the seats here
in Lombard and have standing room only some nights.(Hmmmm. Maybe
we should look into a theatre here in town!) Some of the plays they
have put on were "Of Mice and Men" and "Proof".
They invite all of us to check them out and to maybe look into their
Sponsorship Program. Welcome to Lombard.
June 7:No speaker
June 14: No speaker.
Announcements: May 17, President Rick reviewed the
highlights (see above) of the board meeting. On May 31, President
Rick thanked Mike Fugiel for his ten years with the Lombard Park
District and the many years in Parks and Recreation with the other
Districts, as he would be retiring in a few hours. Good luck Mike.
On Sunday June 3 our friend and member Dick Arnold passed away.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, June 7 at the First Church.
Donations to the First Church or the Rotary Scholarship Fund would
be appreciated as per the families request. Dick was a true friend
to many and a great part of the Rotary family. He will truly be
missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Gerry and the rest of
the Arnold family.
Fines & Happy Fines:
May 17: The Finemaster was absent
May 24: Scholarship Luncheon
May 31: The Fine Master was back in the groove, as he nailed

and Dan Tufanos' daughter from high school. A rousing rendition
of Happy Birthday was sung to not one, not two, but three members
today. John Brandon Brust, Robert Carter Sr. and Ron Mensching.
Happy birthday!
June 7: The finemaster gave a pass to any late Rotarian,
as they streamed in from the Memorial service for Dick Arnold. Chief
Ed paid a pin fine. And there was no reprieve from table fines as
Brian J. and Kathy V. paid the price for two Realtors at one table.
Ray Byrne paid for two peace officers at one table as our new Ag
Linda Zerwin was in attendance and in full dress uniform from the
Roselle PD. Picture fines were enforced as Charlie, Steve F., Ed
S., Jim Ilten and Bob McBride (2) paid up up for their celluloid
shots. Happy fines for Jim Ilten, on his 50 years of marriage and
his 50th H.S. reunion, Brian Johnson on his 48th wedding anniversary
and his granddaughter's picture in the paper. Jean Nolan was happy
to be back at work after the birth of her son and also thanked all
who stepped up to help her with her Rotary duties. Jack Brust came
into town to attend the graduations of five grandkids. Steve Flint's
daughter won the 5th grade art award. Bob McBride tried to beat
the rain gods but was rained out at graduation, a night he won't
soon forget.
June 14: Kathy V. ponied up for a pin violation, Greg Y.,
John Brandon, Kathy V. & Steve F. were assessed late fines,
Brian J. and Kathy V. were hit for two realtors at the finemasters
table and Ralph S. was caught talking on the phone. Picture fines
for Ray B. and Bob Mc B. were put on hold, as they were both not
in attendance. Happy fines were accepted by Kim P., who's daughter
Graduated the 8th grade, Bob H. talked to his son in Iraq, good
to hear he's alright. John Nolan was fined for the shorts and sandals
infraction. Marge T. was happy to see John and thought his outfit
du jour was worth a happy fine. And being this was flag day, John
Brandon had Pres. Rick hand out flag lapel pins to anyone who wanted
one. John asked that members make a donation to the b'day fund in
return for the pin. Thanks John. Happy Birthday wishes were made
to Pete O. and he passed around the obligatory basket.
